Things You Need to Know Before Get a Hair Topper

A lot of people talk about hair toppers on social media, but I noticed that no one really knows what a hair topper is.

A hair topper is a lightweight, easy to use wig that simply clips onto the hair and does a great job of adding volume to the top of the head. Hair toppers come in different styles and sizes, lengths, and thicknesses, and they are generally made from synthetic fibers or real human hair. All of Vivien's hair extensions are made from real human hair.

The interior of the hair topper is made of monofilament, lace, or silk base. The bases are available in different sizes, generally small bases (1.5 "x5", 5"*5") , medium bases (12"*6"), large bases (13*13), these sizes are available in different lengths and different thicknesses. Hair toppers are usually handmade, a topper takes two weeks to make, it can part the hair in any direction and looks very natural.

A hair topper is having a smaller hair base that can be clipped to a certain part of your head and can be a great way to hide thinning hair on the top or front of your head. The hair topper will blend in very naturally with your own hair and look like your own. Get a hair topper that is the same color as your hair to be able to achieve a perfect blend. Unlike hair toppers, wigs are hair that covers your entire head, your own hair is hidden under the cap while the wig's hair is on display, they look bulky and some are not even breathable and are heavy on the hair. But hair toppers are not as burdensome to the hair because of the small area covered.

Choosing the right size for your hair topper is very important, first, you need to know the thinning and hair loss level of your hair. Take a soft ruler and measure your hair loss area from the front to the back and from the left side to the right side (be sure to add an extra inch to each measurement), this will be the basic size you need.  If you still don't know how to measure, you can go to YouTube and watch some instructional videos that will help you pick the right hair size for you.

how to measure the size

We generally style our own hair, so how do you style the top of your hair? The best way is to put them on the head of the mannequin, spray them with water, comb them through, blow dry them, spray them with heat protection spray, straighten or curl them into the style you like, and then you can clip them on your head. Or you can take the hair topper to a salon and have a hairstylist help you with a complete look so you don't have to style it at home. If you want to dye the topper, it depends on what color you buy. A natural black topper can be bleached lighter, but if it is a light-colored hair top, we suggest you only dye it darker. Light-colored hair has been treated with fading when it was in the factory, and if you go back to bleach it, it will make the hair weak and breakable.

If you look closely you may notice that the topper has some short hair at the top, this is not damage or breakage, this is called hair return. Hair return is necessary for the process of creating a hair topper. Typically, an 18-inch hair top is made from 22 inches of long hair and then that portion of hair is wrapped around the base of the top, leaving four inches of hair on top. This actually gives you more volume at the top and thins the ends for blending. With just a heat protection spray or water and a comb, it's easy to blend the returned hair in with the rest of your hair.

The top of your hair does not need to be washed as often as your own hair. We recommend that you wash the top of your hair every 2 weeks. Because the top of your hair doesn't collect oil from your scalp like your own hair does, so it doesn't get as greasy. If you wash it frequently, it will dry out and reduce its lifespan. Of course, if you take good care of it, your topper can last anywhere from six months to over a year. You can extend the life of your topper by storing it in a box when not being worn (to prevent it from collecting dust) and by using sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Sulfate-free products will protect your hair topper from drying out. Regular use of deep conditioners, leave-in conditioners, and serums will help your hair topper stay soft.
